About NIFA Library

NIFA library comes under the sphere of special library, which is different from all other libraries in respect of its location, size, equipments, subject scope, material, clienteles, functions, needs and purposes. Special means a prominent one which is established to obtain and exploit specialized information for particular group or for organization which provide it financial support. NIFA Library is well equipped with modern facilities and organized collection on basic and applied research in the field of food and agriculture. The librarian locate, acquire, manage and disseminate the information in field of Food and Agriculture as soon as it is available in any form so that to meet the legitimate research needs of the scientists and patrons of NIFA. The librarian services includes maintaining all the house keeping routines of library such as acquisition and ordering of work, cataloguing, classification, indexing, serial control, communication skills, preparation of SOP and keeping of records/ statistics for overall management purposes. The main purpose of library and its librarian is to keep abreast the researchers with available research and information (both specific and current) relevant to the institute’s interests. The total collection of library is divided into 1448 books, 1275 Technical Reports, 322 IAEA Publications and 238 Titles of Journals and Serial publications. The publications received during last five are given below in tables as well as in charts.

What Do We Do ?
  • Acquire technical and specialized scientific literature ( Books, Journals, IAEA Publications and offline databases) needed by the scientists/ researchers of this institute for keeping abreast of development in their field of research.
  • Technical processing of material acquired such as cataloguing, classification, computerization, serial control and keeping of records/ statistics for overall management purposes.
  • Help the patrons in retrieving library materials, periodicals, photocopying or duplication of permissible documents, in addition to providing reference and circulation services to the borrowers.
  •  Maintained the day to day up-keeping of the library such as shelving of books and periodicals, filling catalogue cards, index, arranging magazines and newspapers and loose-leaf issues of shelf list and list of periodicals titles.
  • To arrange internationally reputed journals and articles especially required by the scientists/researchers of the institute.
  • To develop close relationship and resource sharing system with other special libraries at national and international level.
  • To provide clipping services, SDI and current awareness services to the users.  

Working hours: - 8 AM to 4 PM (From Monday to Friday)

Coordination with other allied Libraries:- NIBGE, NIAB, NIA, NARC, Central library of NWFP AU,  ARI, Peshawar and Faisalabad
