Integrated Management of Fruit Flies |
Non polluting and economical methods were optimized for the control of fruit flies using Male annihilation technique (use of male attractants), Bait application technique (protein hydrolysate) and biological control. The same is being conveyed to the farmers to help them reduce fruit fly infestation and getting economic returns on their fruit crops. The work is in progress on exploring female attractants. |
Biological control using Trichogramma |
Efficient and cost effective methods of rearing, storage and release of good quality bio control agents especially Trichogramma and Chrysoperla have been developed against tomato fruit worm and maize stem borer. The work has also been done on integrating T. chilonis with neem products. |
Using botanicals as an alternative to chemical control |
Work on indigenous botanical insecticides like neem is being conducted to find safer alternatives to chemical control. We have safely used it for the control of tomato fruit worm. |
IPM of chickpea pod borer |
Work is being done on IPM of chickpea pod borer using several control strategies including host plant resistance, biological control and use of pheromone traps. |
Development of food ingredients for mosquito rearing |
Colony of Anopheles mosquitoes was started from larvae collected from irrigation channel at Agricultural Research Institute Tarnab, Peshawar. Various food ingredients were tested for larval and adult development.larval diet was developed from bean, corn, wheat, rice, chickpea powder at (1:1) with liver mixed at 0.5 ratio. This food accelerated larval developmental period. |
IPM of citrus insect pests |
IPM studies on Citrus psylla and citrus scale are in progress. |
