Introduction

    R & D focus of medical entomology group is to control vectors of deadly diseases especially Aedes and Anopheles, and extends its services to train personal on protection from mosquito bites and with focus on emerging technologies.

Salient Achievements

A. Products and Technologies

    A-1 Products
    i. Dengue Guard: Dengue Guard a mosquito repellent product with unique blend of botanical and synthetic compounds was developed

ii. Fly Guard: An attractive bait for house fly control: It attracts and kills both sexes of house fly within 1-2 minutes having no bad smell and easy to use.

iii. Low-Cost Larval Diet for Mosquitoes: A low-cost combination larval diet was developed for economic rearing of Anopheles and other mosquitoes.

B. Technologies

    i. Use of Nuclear Techniques in the Control of insect Pests and Vectors of Human Diseases

      a. Phytosanitary irradiation doses of agriculture pests for trade promotion in Pakistan.

      b. Identified sterility induction dose of 70 Gy in Pakistani Aedes mosquitoes for use in sterile insect technique (SIT).

    ii. Artificial blood Feeding device for mosquitoes rearing under laboratory conditions: A low cost locally fabricated blood feeding device was developed for female mosquito blood feeding. The device raise the temperate of the blood over membrane to 37 ± 2OC. Female mosquitoes feed through the membrane to develop and produce eggs.
