Nuclear Institute for Food & Agriculture (NIFA), Peshawar is the only ISO 9001:2008 certified R & D Agricultural Institute in the province for the last 8 consecutive years. The Surveillance Audit of NIFA was successfully carried out by Engr. Hammad Shafqat, Lead Auditor from Bureau Veritas on 25th July 2016. The purpose of the visit was to assess the Clauses of The Standard. The proceedings were attended by Director NIFA, Heads of the Divisions, Representatives of Quality Management System and Quality Action Teams.
In his welcome address, Director NIFA, Dr. Ihsanullah, briefly highlighted the R & D activities of the institute and introduced the main objectives and quality policy of NIFA during the opening meeting of the audit. He appreciated the Quality Management System (QMS) team, all heads of divisions and quality action teams for their un-tired efforts to maintain ISO certification since 2008. Mr. Rauf Ullah, Sr. Librarian/ Management Representative (MR) of NIFA’s QMS explained the significance of ISO 9001:2008 Certification and pointed out that despite of many problems and limitations, NIFA is successfully qualify its requirements.
The auditor after opening meeting visited selected labs of various Technical Divisions to review ISO documents and all the activities of QMS such as preparation of Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and Quality System Procedures (QSPs) for Documents & Records, Management Review, Corrective & Preventive Action, Training, Improvement and other ISO relevant records for overall management purposes. He was briefed by quality action teams about the technologies developed by NIFA in the field of food, agriculture and biotechnology for the benefits of farmers and Agro-based industries in the country. Besides ISO documentations, he evinced keen interest in the processing of achieving and materializing technical projects received from funding/ donor agencies.
At the end of a threadbare audit of the documents as well as physical verification of various processes going on in NIFA, the Lead Auditor announced to have no major non-compliance in the system. In light of this he recommended NIFA as ISO-9001: 2008 certified for further one year, 2017. While congratulating Heads of Divisions, Mr. Raufullah (MR), Quality Action Teams and Administration for winning the ISO 9001:2008 re-certification, Director NIFA said that this milestone was achieved with the strong commitment of PAEC top management and active support of DQA, Islamabad. Dr. Ihsanullah requested the representative from Bureau Veritas for technical help to get certification for NIFA such as ISO 17025, Halal Food Certification, Food Safety Management System and HACCP etc. At the end Dr. Aurang Zeb, CS/Head FND presented vote of thanks
